"Bridesmaids"Pre-nuptial comedy R. not much borrowed, a little blue and a lot raunchy describes this often hilarious comedy about a maid of honor who becomes increasingly unhinged as her best friend's wedding approaches. Maya Rudolph is bride-to-be Lillian. Rose Byrne is her new friend, who plunges Annie (Kristen Wiig) into self-doubt. (Kennedy) 123 minutes

A dead mother with a past and twins charged with untangling it. mainly set an unnamed land that resembles the civil- war-riven Lebanon, the story moves back and forth in time as Jeanne tries to make sense of the brutal life of mother Nawal. In French and Arabic with English subtitles. (Kennedy) 130 minutes

"Jumping the Broom"Meet-the-parents comedy PG-13. American slaves had a clandestine marriage ritual: a couple jumped over a broom to signify the start of a shared journey. Sabrina (Paula Patton) and Jason (Laz Alonso) are about to say their "I dos" on Martha's Vineyard. his mother wants them to use an heirloom broom. Her mother isn't having it. (Kennedy) 140 minutes

"Meek's Cutoff"Pioneer drama PG. this beautifully spare saga is set in 1845. Michelle Williams portrays Emily Tetherow. she and husband Solomon are one of three couples beginning to doubt guide Stephen Meeks will deliver them to Oregon. from the opening, the pioneers wrestle with existential challenges, then face an ethical one when Meeks captures an Indian. (Kennedy) 104 minutes

"Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides"Aye! A sequel PG-13. The "Pirates" franchise has righted course with old-fashioned swashbuckling, lovely mermaids and a race to the Fountain of Youth. best news: With slurry, sloshy, happy to vamp and pillage for laughs Johnny Depp aboard, the Capt. Jack Sparrow drag show is as good as ever. on hand to spar — verbally and then some — with the pirate is Penelope Cruz as Angelica, Blackbeard's daughter. (Kennedy) 128 minutes

"Rio"Animated comedy G. Domesticated Blu, a cerulean macaw, and free-spirited bird Jewel must travel to Rio to mate. (Christy Lemire, Associated Press) 96 minutes

"Something Borrowed"Pre-nuptial comedy PG-13. "Something Borrowed" made us blue. Based on Emily Giffin's best seller, this grating comedy follows the tribulations of Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) once she sleeps with best friend Darcy's (Kate Hudson) fiance. The movie twists itself into a knot trying to make the betrayal OK. It can't. (Kennedy) 90 minutes

"Soul Surfer"Inspirational surfing PG. In this Christian-leavened family film, local light AnnaSophia Robb portrays pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, who in 2003 lost her arm in a shark attack. (Kennedy) 106 minutes

"Thor"Action PG-13. It's hammer time as the titular Norse diety, portrayed with humor by Aussie Chris Hemsworth, is banished to Earth by dad Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Sadly, the electricity between Thor and astrophysicist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is static at best. (Kennedy) 90 minutes

"Water for Elephants"Big-top drama PG-13. an engaging two hours of old-fashioned narrative rhythms and starshine, with Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz. (Kennedy) 120 minutes

"Winter in Wartime"Drama R. In the desperate final phase of World War II, a British plane crashes in the woods outside a village in occupied Holland. Thirteen-year-old Michiel intercepts a map that was meant for the resistance and discovers an injured pilot, Jack, clutching a gun in an underground hideout.
