Elton John postpones European performances after thigh injury
London Elton John says he is delaying the European dates on his world tour until 2023 so that he can have surgery on his injured groin.
The 74-year-old singer-songwriter was scheduled to perform in cities in Britain and Europe this year as part of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, followed by shows in the United States in 2022.
But he said falling onto a hard surface in late summer left him in pain.
In a statement on Thursday, he said, “Despite extensive physical and specialized treatment, the pain continued to worsen and lead to increased difficulties in movement. I have been advised to have surgery as soon as possible to return me to full fitness and ensure there are no long-term complications. “.
He said it was “with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have been forced to reschedule 2021 dates for my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour of Europe and the UK until 2023”.
He promised fans that “the shows will be back on the road next year and I’ll make sure they’re worth the wait.”
John said he plans to start the US leg of the tour in January 2022 in New Orleans.
