Liberty secure final venue, postseason starts Thursday
New York Liberty landed on the play-off berth on the final day of the WNBA regular season without resorting to the field for a game.
But due to losses from the Washington Mystics and Los Angeles Sparks, the 8th seed Liberty (12-20) will visit the fifth seed Phoenix Mercury (19-13) in the first round on Thursday.
All three teams had the same record, but Liberty retained the tiebreak advantage for the best record in the confrontation between the three teams.
The other first-round game, Thursday, will see the seventh-seeded Dallas Wings (14-18), sixth-seeded Chicago Sky (16-16) visit.
The first-seeded Connecticut Sun (26-6) and second-seeded Las Vegas ace (24-8) had doubles. The third-seeded Minnesota Links (22-10) and fourth-seeded Seattle Storm (21-11) start in the second round on Sept. 26.
The best of five semi-final rounds begin on September 28. This is when Connecticut and Las Vegas will play their first post-season games.
The WNBA Finals are scheduled to begin on October 10. A match, 5 if necessary, will be played on October 19.
The Storm won the 2020 WNBA title by sweeping the Aces in three games.
