2 Illinois families killed in concert file lawsuits

Naperville, Illinois. The family of two close Chicago suburban friends killed at an Astroworld party in Houston this month have filed lawsuits against rapper Travis Scott, Live Nation Entertainment and others.

The lawsuit brought by the Naperville families of Jacob “Jake” Jurinek, 20, and Franco Patino, 21, is part of a series of lawsuits against Scott and the companies behind the November 5 event in which 10 people were killed and hundreds injured when a large crowd drove party-goers to Forward, smash and trample many of them.

As with many other lawsuits, this case blames the companies and Scott, the party organizer who was on stage when the deadly scene erupted, for failing to take even the simplest safety precautions.

“The accused grossly failed in their duty to protect the health, safety, and life of those attending the ceremony, including, but not limited to, failure to provide adequate security personnel to implement crowd control measures, appropriate barriers, and failure to provide an adequate amount of emergency medical support.” Claims confirm.

Both Patino and Gorenick were undergraduate students, Patino at the University of Dayton in Ohio and Yorink at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. They were teammates on the Newquay Valley High School football team in Naperville.

Like loved ones of other victims, a partner at Chicago law firm Corboy & Demetrio, which filed lawsuits this week at Harris County Courts in Houston, said families are trying to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense.

“A healthy 20 or 21-year-old goes to a concert thinking they’re going to have some fun, and they’re going to celebrate, in this case, Jake’s 21st birthday,” Corboy said. Naperville Sun. “No one expects to go to something as happy and exhilarating as the concert where they end up dying. No one expects that when they pay such high prices for those concert tickets, they have to worry about things like that.”
