Hawks FD Andre Hunter (wrist) out for 2 months

For the second season in a row, Atlanta Hawks forward DeAndre Hunter will miss a major time due to injury.

Hunter ruptured a tendon in his right wrist against the Golden State Warriors on Monday and will need to undergo surgery. The procedure, which will take place Monday in Los Angeles, is expected to sideline Hunter for about eight weeks.

Hunter, the fourth pick in the 2019 draft, saw action in 62 of the Hawks’ 67 games as a rookie. He was limited to 23 games last season due to a knee injury and then missed the majority of Atlanta’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals.

If Hunter returns eight weeks from Monday, he will miss 29 games, including the three games he’s already missed since picking up an injury. The 23-year-old averages 10.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 27.8 minutes, all of which are career lows.

The Hawks sit on a disappointing 5-9 lead in the youth season, despite their victory over defending champion Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. Their next game is on Monday against the Orlando Magic.
