Kevin Christopher Torres was arrested Tuesday afternoon after an hours-long standoff with Orange County deputies, which began around 11:15 a.m. and ended just after 2 p.m. in a gas station parking lot on Rio Grande Street.

Lopez said earlier that Torres opened fire on Orange County deputies. However, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office later clarified that the man only fired one shot and it was not directed at law enforcement.

He was taken to a local hospital “to receive treatment for injuries unrelated to his interactions with law enforcement,” according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Representatives said the investigation into the triple murders took place in two separate scenes, near an apartment or apartment complex on Royal Palm Drive and Gardiner Lane, east of Kissimmee near East Lake Tohopkaliga.

“We believe he was involved in the three (deaths) according to the witness. We don’t have, you know, 100% yet because it’s still an ongoing investigation at the moment,” Lopez said.

According to Lopez, the three victims are believed to be two adults and a child, and investigators do not suspect that any of them are related to the person of interest.

He added that they believed it was a fatal shooting incident, as a body was found in a different building from the other two victims. Lopez said the suspect had a history of mental health problems and substance abuse.

Witnesses watched the confrontation, and Torres’ eventual arrest.

Witness Lynette Smith said, “I’m just like, ‘What’s going on?’ “

From Sky 6 we saw Torres first drive the car a little ahead before being cornered by the deputies. At last he surrendered and went towards the deputies, took off his shirt, before being put on a stretcher and placed in custody.

People nearby said they were briefly asked to evacuate during the incident.

One witness said, “They told us to back up because it’s not safe for us to be here.” “The man locked himself in the car.”
