The World Final of Snow and Ice will take place in the Republic of China on the frozen Baltic Sea, 60 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

“Short days, freezing cold and changing conditions will make Sweden a perfect fit for all-around talents like Jimmy,” said Frederick Johnson, President of the Republic of China. “He doesn’t have much 4WD experience, but he’s very skilled off-road and at high speeds, so I’m sure he’ll adapt pretty quickly like he did in 2002.”

Among the drivers already confirmed for participation are F1 star Valtteri Bottas, nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Christensen, FIA World Rally Champion Johan Kristofferson, and nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb. Former F1 champion Mika Hakkinen and three-time ROC World Championship final winner Matthias Ekström has also been confirmed.

It was considered a surprise victory as Johnson and Gordon became the first NASCAR drivers to win the ROC Nations Cup. They beat defending champions Team Spain and the victory opened the ROC Nations Cup to more American participation.

“Gran Canaria was filthy and I don’t think the other guys knew how much dirt racing Jeff and I had in our backgrounds,” Johnson said. “I don’t think many expected me to run well or even know who I am, for that matter.

“Winning the People’s Cup of the Republic of China was something really unique. The only event I represented my country in. I have been able to achieve a lot in my career, but this is the only experience I have had like that.”

Johnson won 83 Career Cup races and seven NASCAR record championships before retiring at the end of the 2020 season. Now 46, Johnson has completed this year’s junior season in the IndyCar Series.

Since Team USA’s win in 2002, brothers Kurt and Kyle Busch have competed in the ROC Nations Cup, as well as IndyCar champions Ryan Hunter-Rey and Joseph Newgarden.

ROC pits racers from various motorsports disciplines into head-to-head duos until the last remaining driver is crowned ‘Champion of Champions’. The latest teams made up of ROC drivers claim the title as “the fastest country in the world”.

Formula 1 superstars Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel dominated the Nations Cup from 2007 to 2012. The duo are the most successful team in the history of the Republic of China Cup.

“I’m really looking forward to coming back to the Republic of China and competing with Travis,” Johnson said. “He’s a huge talent and we have great fun competing together. Hopefully we can have some fun and success on the ice and snow.”
