Mindhunter writer Dominic Orlando dies at 57

Washington [US], Nov. 25 (ANI): Dominic Orlando, playwright-turned-writer and television producer who has worked on shows like Nightflyers, Mindhunter and Them, has passed away.

According to Variety, he passed away on November 17 in Washington from complications from cancer. He was 57 years old when he breathed his last.

The Orlando family said the writer died doing what he loved most, because he had prepared for the first day in the TV authors’ room just hours before his death. He is survived by his mother Lillian, brothers John and Stephen and Stephen’s wife Sarah, who is his niece, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the Orlando family is asking people to consider making a donation to the Dominic Orlando Fund, set up by friends and the Playwrights Center. Proceeds from the fund will be used to support writers who are creating their own unique path in the arts.

His family spoke about him in a statement and shared, “He was the person everyone wanted to sit next to on Thanksgiving, at brunches in Minneapolis and backyard barbecues in L.A.” and excited. A teacher, friend and a very generous soul, he spent his life building social circles the way he built stories, he was the heart of every circle and family added.

Born in Brooklyn on Christmas Day 1963, Orlando has gone on to be an artist from an early age. He began his career in the New York theater, where he co-founded No Pants Theater in 1992, an organization that aims to explore the mythical and spiritual stories of America.

After New York, he moved to Minneapolis where he co-founded the Workhaus Collective while on the Jerome and McKnight Fellowship at the Playwrights Center. The company’s goal was to support the uncompromising vision of its authors. Over the years, Orlando has written many plays and operas and has taught theater.

Eventually, Orlando moved to Los Angeles, where he worked in television and wrote for shows such as The Them series, Outer Range, FX’s Retreat, The OA from Netflix, Mindhunter and Nightflyers. ‘, a series based on the works of George R. R. Martin. (Ani)
