Jerusalem – Organizers of the Miss Universe contest next month said that one of the contestants has tested positive for COVID-19.
It wasn’t immediately clear if she tested positive for the newly discovered omicron variant. The Israeli authorities said they would go ahead with the competition in the southern city of Eilat in December, despite the rapid spread of the new version.
The Miss Universe organization, which organizes the contest, did not specify which contestant had tested positive or her nationality. On Monday, she said, she tested positive upon arrival in Israel and was transferred to an isolated government-run hotel.
She was fully vaccinated and tested before leaving, she said. Organizers said most of the 80 contestants had made it to Israel.
