OCPS magnet programs offer educational options

Orange County Public Schools hosts a virtual Magnet Fair to promote specialized learning programs known as Magnets. All parents and students are invited to learn more about the magnet programs offered in elementary, middle, and high schools. These focused programs encourage academic excellence in highly specialized fields of study and often pave the way for post-secondary schools and colleges.

Spotlight programs include:

• Theatrical fine arts at the university This program provides students interested in advancing their musical, dance and theater skills with various opportunities to grow as individual and citizen artists. The program uses an academic integration plan that promotes the artistic, academic and personal development of students through a rigorous performance-based arts curriculum.

• International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program at Robinswood Middle School The IB MYP curriculum helps students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills needed to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world. The MYP is internationally recognized and encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional topics and the real world, and to become critical and reflective thinkers. (College Park, Roberto Clemente, Memorial, and Carver Middle Schools also have MYP.)

• Orange Center Elementary STEM School – This magnet program provides an enhanced curriculum focused on knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students will develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to be ready for higher education and 21st century careers.

See a list of all OCPS magnet programs offered at the elementary, middle, and high school level. Students must apply for the Magnet program at www.schoolchoice.ocps.net. If the number of applicants is greater than the number of seats available in a particular program, students will be selected through a lottery. The application window is open until February 15, 2022.

Students who currently reside in Orange County who are attending a grade of kindergarten through 10th grade in the 2022-23 school year may apply for a seat in the Magnet Program. Students applying for kindergarten programs must be 5 years old before September 1.

The Orange County Public Schools Office of School Choice Services works to raise awareness among parents and community members about options for choosing voluntary public schools in Florida. Choosing a school means giving parents the opportunity to participate in choosing the school their children will attend. It also means providing services and assistance to help children receive the education that best meets their needs.
