Today, I’d like to share with you what 67 members of the Florida Electoral Supervisors Association had to say about the election process. There are Democrats and Republicans in charge of elections in Florida. The current president of the association is a Republican. They gathered to create this statement.

“The great American experiment, our precious democracy, is under threat. Our nation is as strong as our citizens’ belief that their vote, and their vote, has a say in our government. At this hour the public’s confidence in our elections is being systematically undermined, to the detriment of all Americans.”

“As election specialists, we have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Our Constitution is built on the idea that ‘we the people’ choose our government. We put that idea into practice through elections. It is the fundamental and unifying principle of our democracy.”

“As the authoritative, authoritative sources of electoral information and experts in our fields, we continually strive to expose false allegations, and ensure that voters receive accurate electoral information. We are committed to the cause of election integrity, ensuring that each eligible voter’s votes are accurately counted and that no fraud occurs.

But false allegations of fraud do not strengthen our elections. Instead, they undermine trust in institutions, and discourage citizen participation in our democracy.

“During and after the 2020 presidential election, the integrity of our democracy has been challenged by disinformation, disinformation, and disinformation that sows discord and undermines confidence in the American electoral process. Many of us have been threatened by our citizens who have been misled by these hoaxes.

Instead of standing idly by, we are asking all candidates and elected officials to tone down the rhetoric and stand up for democracy. We ask that you work with us to understand the safeguards in place to ensure that elections are conducted fairly, securely and accurately.

“In his Gettysburg Address, President Lincoln declared that the American people should devote themselves to ensuring that ‘the government of the people, by the people, the people shall not perish from the land.’ Through elections the government of the people is achieved. To this end, we call upon officials at all levels of government to Commitment to the goal of fighting lies and enhancing voter confidence.

“We can rise to this challenge. Our democracy depends on it.”
