‘Red Notice’, ‘Squid Game’ is the hottest metric I’ve watched on Netflix for hours

New York On Tuesday, Netflix launched a new website that measures the most-watched movies and series by the number of hours users spend watching them. Results? People are watching “Squid Game” and the new adventure movie “Red Notice” and probably more than you expected.

According to the streaming service’s new metric, Rawson Marshall Thurber’s “Red Notice,” starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, has been watched for 148.7 million hours globally since it debuted on November 12 on Netflix. Last week, the most popular series was the third season of “Narcos: Mexico” with 50.3 million watch hours.

The first season of “Squid Game” ranks as the most watched show or movie ever on Netflix, with 1.6 billion hours watched.

Every Tuesday, Netflix will update Top10 on Netflix with the top 10 series and movies on the streaming service. Until now, Netflix has been selective in sharing viewing data. He has occasionally shared views of the results, and scores a top ten list, without data, on the service itself.

Although the hour scale replaces previous Netflix “views”, which can only count a few minutes from a movie or series. Other major streaming services, such as Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, do not release viewing data regularly.

Netflix’s metrics still don’t show how many people have actually watched something on the service, and it doesn’t include movies or series that fall outside the top 10 of it. But it’s the most transparent analogy that Netflix has embraced to date.

“This is an important step forward for Netflix, the creators we work with, and our members,” Pablo Perez de Russo, Netflix’s vice president of content strategy, wrote in a blog post on Tuesday. “People want to understand what it means to be successful in the world of live broadcasting, and these lists provide the clearest answer to that question in our industry.”

Netflix will publish ratings in both English and non-English, and top 10 lists in over 90 countries. The company said it had hired accounting firm EY to review its numbers.

At its current rate, “Red Notice” – which received largely poor reviews from critics – could become Netflix’s most popular movie of all time. This title is currently held by Sandra Bullock 2018 thriller “Bird Box”, which has been watched by 282 million hours.
