Nov 19 Updates

Head Coach Bruce Arians said the Buccaneers would sort out at the end of the week which players may return from injured reserve and which injured players on the active roster are available, but he also said that cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, in particular, was making good progress. Murphy-Bunting hasn’t played since he suffered a dislocated elbow in the opener, and when he returned to practice he was slow to fully use that arm. That isn’t a problem anymore. “I saw him in press coverage get his hands on people this week,” said Arians. “He’s made a couple interceptions using both arms, so yeah, I can see good progress from Sean.”

The Buccaneers would have to activate Murphy-Bunting from IR for him to play on Monday against the Giants. The same is true of wide receiver Scotty Miller, who has also been practicing with the team the past two weeks.

Tom Brady

#12 QB

Height: 6-4 Weight: 225 lbs College: Michigan

Quarterback Tom Brady was given the day off – a “vet day” in coaching parlance. This is the first vet day of the season for Brady, who leads the NFL with 27 touchdown passes. The Buccaneers had a bonus practice on Wednesday to start the week leading up to Monday night’s matchup with the Giants, so Brady will still get the usual amount of work in.

Dee Delaney

#30 CB

Height: 5-11 Weight: 200 lbs College: Miami

CB Dee Delaney remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, as Head Coach Bruce Arians noted on Friday, but he did make some progress towards returning to action on Friday. After sitting out the entire practice on Thursday, Delaney was involved in a limited fashion in the team’s Friday workout. Outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder/hand) went in the opposite direction, from full participation to limited work on Friday but that is still quite a bit more practice time than he has gotten in a week in more than a month. Wide receiver Chris Godwin (foot) was limited for a second straight day. Defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches was added to the injury report on Friday with an ankle ailment.

Jason Pierre-Paul

#90 OLB

Height: 6-5 Weight: 275 lbs College: South Florida

Nov 18 Updates

On Thursday, outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul participated in a full-speed practice for the first time since October 8. Pierre-Paul has been managing a painful shoulder injury for nearly two months, and while he hasn’t missed a game since Week Four he has rarely taken part in practice as the team tries to make sure he is ready for game day each week. However, the veteran edge rusher was a full participant in the Bucs’ Thursday workout, half of which was conducted in pads. Pierre-Paul spoke afterward and said he wanted to get back into practice in order to be more prepared for the physical nature of the games. “I’ve gotta feel it, man, I’ve gotta feel it,” he said. “Even though I’m in pain, I’ve got to feel it.”

Rob Gronkowski

#87 TE

Height: 6-6 Weight: 265 lbs College: Arizona

Tight end Rob Gronkowski was a full participant in Thursday’s practice, fueling optimism that he’ll be able to return on Monday night against the Giants after a lengthy absence due to rib and back injuries. Gronkowski most recently played in Week Eight at New Orleans as he tried to come back from his original ribs injury but was only able to make it through six snaps before experiencing back spasms. He was off to a hot start to the season prior to his injury against the Rams in Week Three, with 16 catches for 184 yards and four touchdowns.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown (ankle) did not practice and wide receiver Chris Godwin was limited due to a foot injury. Godwin was limited by the same injury during last week’s series of practices but did play against Washington on Sunday.

Richard Sherman

#5 CB

Height: 6-3 Weight: 195 lbs College: Stanford

Nov 17 Updates

The Buccaneers placed cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve on Wednesday due to the calf injury he sustained before Sunday’s game at Washington. Sherman becomes the fourth cornerback on the team’s current IR list, though Sean Murphy-Bunting may be closing in on being activated. Sherman hasn’t played since initially suffering a hamstring injury at Philadelphia in Week Six.

Zach Triner

#97 LS

Height: 6-3 Weight: 245 lbs College: Assumption

The Buccaneers designated long-snapper Zach Triner as “returned to practice” on Wednesday, beginning a three-week period in which he can practice with the team without counting against the 53-man roster limit. He can be activated from injured reserve at any point during those 21 days. Triner has been on injured reserve since suffering a torn tendon in a finger on his left hand in the season opener.

Darren Fells

#88 TE

Height: 6-7 Weight: 281 lbs College: UC Irvine

Nov 16 Updates

The Buccaneers once again used all four of their protection options on the practice squad in Week 11, giving that designation to kicker Jose Borregales, tight end Darren Fells, wide receiver Breshad Perriman and cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson. Both Fells and Perriman were elevated for Sunday’s game at Washington and were active, though they only played three combined snaps on offense.

Vita Vea

#50 DL

Height: 6-4 Weight: 347 lbs College: Washington

Nov 15 Updates

In his day-after-game press conference on Monday afternoon, Head Coach Bruce Arians delivered some good news regarding the status of standout nose tackle Vita Vea. Vea suffered a knee injury on the final defensive snap of Sunday’s game at Washington and had to be taken off the field on a cart. However, an MRI on Vea’s knee revealed only a “slight” MCL injury and a bone bruise, which means he may not miss too much time. However, Arians said he did not expect cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) back in action “anytime soon.”

Breshad Perriman

#16 WR

Height: 6-2 Weight: 215 lbs College: Central Florida

Nov 13 Updates

The Buccaneers elevated wide receiver Breshad Perriman and tight end Daniel Fells from the practice squad, making them available to play in Sunday’s game at Washington. Perriman and Fells just signed with the Bucs’ practice squad on Wednesday but the team heads into the weekend with injury concerns at those two positions. Wide receiver Antonio Brown and tight end Rob Gronkowski have been ruled out for the Washington game and wide receiver Chris Godwin is considered questionable to play.

Rashard Robinson

#28 CB

Height: 6-1 Weight: 177 lbs College: LSU

Nov 12 Updates

The Buccaneers lost a third cornerback to injured reserve on Friday when fifth-year man Rashard Robinson landed on that list due to a hamstring injury sustained on Wednesday. Robinson had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game at Washington but now he will have to miss a minimum of three games before returning to the active roster. The Buccaneers did not immediately fill the open spot on their 53-man roster but could choose to activate cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting or wide receiver Scotty Miller from the practice squad.

Chris Godwin

#14 WR

Height: 6-1 Weight: 208 lbs College: Penn State

WR Chris Godwin, who was sidelined on Wednesday and Thursday due to a foot injury, took a step in the right direction on Friday by taking part in practice in a limited capacity. Head Coach Bruce Arians said Godwin did “just enough” to make his availability for Sunday’s game a possibility. How the team’s leading receiver feels on Saturday after that Friday field work will likely be the deciding factor. Godwin was listed as questionable on the week’s final injury report.

Scotty Miller

#10 WR

Height: 5-9 Weight: 174 lbs College: Bowling Green

WR Scotty Miller and CB Sean Murphy-Bunting continued to practice on Friday and are eligible to be activated from injured reserve any time before November 23. After practice on Friday, Head Coach Bruce Arians said that either of the two players “could be” activated in time to be eligible for Sunday’s game at Washington.

Chris Godwin

#14 WR

Height: 6-1 Weight: 208 lbs College: Penn State

Nov 10 Updates

The Buccaneers’ first injury report of Week 10 included four players who sat out practice on Wednesday, and the surprise name on the list was that of wide receiver Chris Godwin. Head Coach Bruce Arians said Godwin is dealing with a foot injury and that the team would have to wait and see if the ailment will put his availability for Sunday’s game in Washington in jeopardy. Godwin is Tampa Bay’s leading receiver with 50 catches for 660 yards and four touchdowns.

The other three players who didn’t practice were wide receiver Antonio Brown (ankle), tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) and outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul. Brown has missed the Bucs’ last two games and Gronkowski the last four.

Scotty Miller

#10 WR

Height: 5-9 Weight: 174 lbs College: Bowling Green

Wide receiver Scotty Miller, who has missed five games with a turf toe injury, was on the field Wednesday and, according to Head Coach Bruce Arians, he “ran around” well. Arians drew a distinction between running and being ready to play a football game, but Miller is obviously progressing towards a return relatively soon. Miller says he will be working this week to demonstrate to his coaches that he is ready to get back into game action. The third-year receiver is currently on injured reserve but is about halfway through a 21-day window in which he can practice with the team and be activated at any time.

Breshad Perriman

#16 WR

Height: 6-2 Weight: 215 lbs College: Central Florida

The Bucs switched out a couple spots on the practice squad Wednesday without changing the overall positional makeup of that 16-man unit. Wide receiver Breshad Perriman replaced wide receiver John Hurst and tight end Darren Fells replaced tight end Deon Yelder. In both cases, the Buccaneers added a veteran pass-catcher with a significant amount of NFL experience. In fact, Perriman’s most successful season came with the Buccaneers in 2019.

Codey McElroy

#86 TE

Height: 6-6 Weight: 258 lbs College: Southeastern Oklahoma State

Nov 9 Updates

The Buccaneers used all four of their practice squad protection options for Week 10, making sure other teams couldn’t sign away tight end Codey McElroy, kicker Jose Borregales, safety Troy Warner and cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson before Sunday’s game at Washington. McElroy is back on the list for the first time since Week Five, possibly because the Buccaneers remain unsure about Rob Gronkowski’s availability by the weekend. The Bucs have already used both of McElroy’s practice squad elevation options, so if they wanted him to be available for the game on Sunday they would need to promote him to the active roster.

Antonio Brown

#81 WR

Height: 5-10 Weight: 185 lbs College: Central Michigan

Nov 8 Updates

The Buccaneers held a “bonus practice” on Monday after returning from their bye week, and Head Coach Bruce Arians provided some updates on injured players afterward. One Buccaneer who is still not practicing is wide receiver Antonio Brown, who is still wearing a walking boot to treat an injured ankle. Arians said it was uncertain at the moment whether Brown or tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) would be back in time for Sunday’s game at Washington.

Sean Murphy-Bunting

#23 CB

Height: 6-0 Weight: 195 lbs College: Central Michigan

Nov 2 Updates

The Buccaneers didn’t practice on Tuesday but they did get two players back into practice mode, technically. Wide receiver Scotty Miller and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, both currently on injured reserve for elbow and toe injuries, respectively, were designated by the team as “returned to practice.” That opens a 21-day window during which either or both can be activated to the 53-man roster at any point. The Buccaneers won’t return to practice until next Monday but Miller and Murphy-Bunting can get in some work together on the field in the interim.

Carlton Davis III

#24 CB

Height: 6-1 Weight: 206 lbs College: Auburn

Nov 1 Updates

The Buccaneers began their bye week on Monday, which will give the team’s relatively lengthy list of injured players some additional time to rest and recover. Head Coach Bruce Arians said the team would know more about the status of those players when the team reconvenes next week to begin preparing for a Week 10 road game against Washington. However, Arians did have an encouraging update on three players who are currently on short-term injured reserve: cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting (elbow) and Carlton Davis (calf) and wide receiver Scotty Miller (toe).

“I think we’ll know more when we are back, but Sean and Carlton look like they are making really good progress. Scotty Miller is also.”
