Winter Park Commission Race Takes Shape
The Winter Park Commission race is taking shape with the addition of several candidates. Commissioner Carolyn Cooper (Seat 3) was fired, and left vacant. So far, practicing attorney Christopher Cruzada and business owner Anjali Vaya have joined the race for Cooper’s seat.
Todd Weaver is the incumbent of the position of Committee 4. Although Weaver does not have a competitor yet, the majority expect him to appear at some point.
Many in the community have expressed concern in the past year about the commission’s attempt to raise tax rates. Additionally, some concerned residents have cited the commission’s position on the Orange Avenue Overlay and the now marginalized Henderson Hotel project as an attack on progress.
The commissioners were widely criticized last year for personal attacks on community members and local organizations as well as for their focus on issues such as backyard chicken permits, an effort that many locals felt was out of place during an international pandemic.
